And Then Life Happens…
17March 13, 2016 by The Dog Rules
Dear Friends,
There has recently been a change in my household. A very sweet foster dog has made an appearance in my life.
Dearheart is a lovely dog. There are a few medical issues that need to be remedied and many questions to be answered. Dearheart loves company and to be petted. Everywhere I go I have a quiet, four footed shadow.
I am spending a lot of time caring for Dearheart and taking this sweet soul to medical appointments. Unfortunately, I cannot share with you a whole lot more as this dog is part of an investigation into alleged cruelty.
Caring for Dearheart means taking time away from my writing and other activities. I hope to get a few things worked out in the next few weeks and get back on track with my posts. I hope you will bear with me.
In the midst of all this excitement in my life, Microsoft decided to push Windows 10 on to my computer. It was not a happy experience. I lost some of my recent work in this assault on my PC. While I was eventually successful in restoring my computer to its former self, the time I spent prying Windows 10 off of it also impeded my ability to write, communicate, do banking… Thanks Microsoft. I won’t forget how you messed up my week.
The new week is about to begin. I’m looking forward to sorting out both my computer and some of Dearheart’s issues. I might even get the chance to write. Crossing my paws!

Awww. I am so glad the Dearheart now has someone to love and care for him! Hope all of his medical issues are minor. Take all the time you need to get things taken care of. On another note, my computer keeps saying I can get Windows 10 for free for a limited time. I am resisting putting it on. I hope they don’t force it onto mine. I don’t do well with change.

Thank you.
Microsoft will push out Windows 10 to all Windows 7 or 8 machines. The day after it happened to me it happened to a friend on his business computer. The only thing that saved him was that he wasn’t letting Windows automatically download and install the updates. He had it on a setting where it downloaded and wouldn’t apply the update until he clicked to restart the computer to apply the updates.
Google “GWX Control Panel”. It is a freeware tool that will allow you to remove any Windows 10 stuff from your computer and reset the downloads so that it can’t automatically upgrade you without your permission. It is very easy to use and has a button to “Display the User Guide”. All very straight-forward if you take the time to read the instructions. 🙂

Thanks. I wonder if you don’t upgrade, though, if things will quit working like they are supposed to. I have that problem with my cell phone – didn’t upgrade and couldn’t get my e-mails until I did.

I have programs that I must use for my income and they aren’t Win 10 compatible. There is not choice for me at this point in time. AND I intensely resent Microsoft forcing the upgrade without my consent. Makes me think they are underhanded.

I totally understand. I think they have way too much control of what happens on MY computer. When my old computer died, and I got this one, I also had to buy a new printer because the software would no longer support the interface. I loved my old printer. Hate my new one. (And, I did search the internet, but no interface existed. 😦 )

Congratulations on Dearheart. On the Windows Issue, I am using W10 now and actually find it more stable than either 7 or 8.1. There is a free aftermarket Desktop app that lets you have the old W7 Desktop in W10 which I use and also love. Just google “Windows 7 Desktop” and it will take you to the site.

Thank you, Poor Robert. I just replied to the Windows 10 on another link. We were typing at the same time. Ha ha

Your priorities are 100% in place; spending time caring for Dearheart is far more important than writing (or doing laundry or the dishes, for that matter). Your little shadow is lucky to have you caring for him.
I have Windows 10 on my Surface and quite like it, but I am appalled at the ability of corporations (Apple is no better) to mess with our property and our lives without our consent. Hope you get everything sorted soon.
Will be patiently waiting in the wings for updates.

Thank you. I was so excited when DH brought me a toy this morning. Still not feeling well enough to actually play.. and showing interest.

I also wanted to let you know that we’ve had some success distracting little Ozzy from other dogs one the beach. If I can catch his eye and run in a different direction, he usually follows. Great advice!

Wishing you all the best as you help this sweet animal to heal and feel safe again. I saw on another thread that you sorted the computer issues. Thank goodness!

Dearheart has found a good home… wishing you luck with your new companion and the dreadful Microsoft forced update. Whilst WIN 10 has actually a rather nice interface, I had a few problems at work with it today. I wish it hadn’t been forced on us unsuspecting users! It will work out, I hope you resolve your data issues and in time, it hopefully will feel seamless.

Thank you. Dearheart is now my only priority. I’ve battled the Microsoft Monster successfully and have recovered my machine so that I can, once again, work on it.
