Why am I blogging?

The Dog Rules is intended to be taken many ways.

Dog and her needs rule a goodly portion of my life. I chose to share my home with her and am forever responsible for her care.  These are the Dog Rules focusing on her care, well-being and safety.

The Dog Rules me by merely being her sweet, loving, fun and crazy self. I can’t resist some of her cute antics and she gets her own way. These Dog Rules are a mild form of chaos perpetuated upon a helpless human by a furry being that has me wrapped around her paw.

Then there are the simple Dog Rules, some of which were most clearly expressed by character Scott Turner (played by Tom Hanks) in the 1989 movie Turner & Hooch:

“No barking, no growling, you will not lift your leg to anything in this house. This is not your room. No slobbering, no chewing, you will wear a flea collar. This is not your room. No begging for food, no sniffing of crotches, and you will not drink from my toilet. This is not your room.”

Life with Six Feet:

In my perfect world Dog would go pretty well everywhere with me. Work. Errands. Parties. Vacations… Sadly I cannot include her in everything that I would like. There are even more Dog Rules that get in the way.

My posts will generally my adventures with Dog and the shelter dogs with whom I frequently interact as fitting  various Rules as applied to dogs: Obedience and other training. Things that I have found helpful in caring for Dog. Sports/games for/with your dog. Shelter dog stories from a volunteer’s perspective. Since I also work with the cats, there will likely be a few cat tails tales as well.

I, too, am a dog lover. They pretty much rule the house. My recent rescue is sitting at my feet snoring! Looking forward to your posts

I’ve always had dogs and cats in my life.
I have been trained well. If your dogs need any pointers, please have them contact my 1 year old dog Hamish Macbeth or his older cat brother Carl Kolchak.

The Dog Rules

Once the proud guardian of a rather cheeky Border Collie/Aussie Cattle Dog mix, may she forever rest in peace, my favourite activities were those things that included my canine friend. I spend my spare time volunteering at the local animal shelter as a dog walker/trainer. When my next furever friend comes along you'll be able to read all about it @ TheDogRules.wordpress.com
